Honda Malaysia has officially introduced the 2026 Honda City facelift, giving its popular B-segment sedan a sharper appearance, a more connected cabin and a broader range of driver-assistance technologies.
This is the second facelift for the fifth-generation City, which first arrived in Malaysia in 2020. The revised line-up has been streamlined to four variants: the 1.5L E, 1.5L V, 1.5L Petrol RS and range-topping 1.5L e RS. The entry-level S grade is no longer offered, raising the starting point of the range to RM89,900.
Although the mechanical package remains largely unchanged, Honda has focused this update on the areas most visible to drivers: exterior design, infotainment, parking assistance and safety.
A Sharper and More Contemporary Exterior
The most noticeable changes are found at the front.
The 2026 City adopts slimmer Bi-LED projector headlights, now standard across the line-up, together with a redesigned grille and bumper. The Honda emblem has been repositioned on the upper body-coloured section, giving the front end a cleaner and more streamlined appearance.
The RS variants receive an exclusive full-width light bar connecting the daytime running light elements, creating a more distinctive signature after dark. Their front bumpers also feature a sharper, upturned central intake that gives the City a more assertive character.
The e RS is further distinguished by several black exterior details, including its door handles, side-mirror covers, shark-fin antenna and boot spoiler extension.
Changes continue at the rear, where Honda has introduced a redesigned bumper featuring a black mesh-style centre section, diffuser-inspired trim and vertical reflectors. The familiar trapezoidal taillight shape remains, but the RS variants receive a revised clear-and-black internal treatment that illuminates red when activated.
New turbine-style 16-inch alloy wheels complete the RS transformation. Finished in Berlina Black with machined surfaces, they are paired with 185/55 R16 Toyo Proxes R57 tyres.
The hybrid retains a 410-litre boot, smaller than the petrol variants because of the placement of its hybrid components but still practical enough for everyday luggage and shopping.
Four Exterior Colours
Honda Malaysia offers the refreshed City in four colours:
Blazing Red Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Stellar Diamond Pearl.
Stellar Diamond Pearl is limited to the V and Petrol RS variants, meaning the e RS is available in the remaining three finishes.
Familiar Cabin Receives Meaningful Technology Upgrades
The overall dashboard architecture remains familiar, but several changes help modernise the cabin.
In the RS variants, the previous heavily red dashboard treatment has been replaced by a more restrained textured silver panel with a red accent line. Red ambient lighting adds atmosphere at night, while the seat upholstery receives a revised perforation pattern.
The side mirrors now include an automatic folding function, and the e RS gains a wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones.
The most important cabin upgrade is the new 10-inch Display Audio touchscreen. The larger system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing a more convenient way to access navigation, music, messages and other compatible smartphone applications.
Honda has also integrated the updated camera interface into the display. The system offers multiple viewing angles and moving-object detection, with drivers able to cycle through the available views using a dedicated switch at the end of the left steering-column stalk.
Despite these improvements, the Malaysian e RS still does not receive the sunroof or ventilated front seats available in selected overseas markets.
The Same Proven Petrol and Hybrid Powertrains
Honda has not altered the City’s engine line-up for the 2026 facelift.
The petrol-powered E, V and RS variants continue to use a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated DOHC i-VTEC engine, producing 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque. Drive is sent to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission.
The e RS retains Honda’s dual-motor i-MMD hybrid system.
Its primary traction motor develops 109 PS and 253 Nm, giving the hybrid its immediate low-speed response. The accompanying 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine produces 98 PS and 127 Nm and primarily functions as a generator.
Under most urban driving conditions, the electric motor is responsible for moving the vehicle. At higher cruising speeds, the petrol engine can connect mechanically to the wheels through a lock-up clutch when direct engine drive is more efficient.
There are no increases in power or torque for this facelift. The e RS therefore continues to rely on smooth electric response, fuel efficiency and refined urban operation rather than a major performance upgrade.
Broader Safety Coverage Across the Range
Safety represents one of the most meaningful improvements.
Every 2026 Honda City continues to receive Honda Sensing as standard, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Lead Car Departure Notification and automatic high beam.
The facelift adds the Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitoring across all four variants.
Blind Spot Information monitors vehicles travelling in areas that may be difficult to see through the mirrors and warns the driver when changing lanes. Cross Traffic Monitoring assists when reversing from a parking space by detecting vehicles approaching from either side.
Honda LaneWatch also remains standard across the range, giving drivers a camera-based view of the vehicle’s left side when the indicator is activated.
The 360-degree Multi-View Camera System is available on the Petrol RS and e RS. By presenting a more complete view around the car, the system should make parking and manoeuvring through narrow urban spaces easier.
2026 Honda City Malaysia Pricing
The updated City is priced as follows, on the road without insurance:
Honda City 1.5L E — RM89,900
Honda City 1.5L V — RM94,900
Honda City 1.5L Petrol RS — RM99,900
Honda City 1.5L e RS — RM111,900
The prices of the remaining variants are unchanged from the previous model, although the discontinuation of the RM84,900 S grade means buyers now enter the range through the better-equipped E.
Honda Malaysia also announced a RM3,000 early-bird reward, subject to eligibility and campaign terms. The broader Special City Reward Programme is limited to the first 2,400 eligible customers.
Extended Ownership Coverage
Another significant development is Honda Malaysia’s extended warranty programme.
Eligible new Honda petrol and hybrid vehicles purchased from 1 September 2026 receive service-activated warranty coverage of up to eight years with unlimited mileage, subject to the programme’s servicing requirements and terms. Vehicles must be maintained according to schedule at authorised Honda dealerships to remain eligible.
The City e RS also benefits from Honda Malaysia’s 10-year, unlimited-mileage warranty for the hybrid battery and selected hybrid components, subject to the applicable conditions.
A Technology-Led Facelift Rather Than a Mechanical Reinvention
The 2026 Honda City does not attempt to reinvent a successful formula.
Its engines and fundamental cabin layout are carried over, but the sharper styling, larger infotainment display, enhanced parking cameras and expanded safety technologies address several areas that matter to everyday owners.
The standardisation of blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic detection across the range is especially welcome, while the RS models gain enough visual and equipment changes to feel noticeably fresher.
At RM111,900, the e RS remains the showcase of the range. It combines the immediate response of Honda’s dual-motor hybrid system with the new light-bar design, 10-inch touchscreen, 360-degree camera and the most comprehensive equipment package.
For buyers who do not require hybrid technology, the Petrol RS retains much of the visual appeal and safety equipment for RM12,000 less.
Ultimately, the latest City is an evolutionary update, but it is a meaningful one. Honda has retained the sedan’s proven practicality and familiar powertrains while adding the connectivity, visibility and driver-assistance features increasingly expected in a modern urban car.
