DESIGN
Compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy A53, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G has a slightly smaller display at 6.4 inches, but this difference is hardly noticeable. Additionally, the new design eliminates the raised rear camera bump, which has been replaced with a sleek “floating” camera design.
The Galaxy A54 5G also boasts a range of stunning color options, including Awesome Graphite, Awesome White, Awesome Lime, and Awesome Violet (pictured here). These colors are sure to appeal to a wide range of users, making it an excellent choice for those who want a device that looks as good as it performs.
The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is designed with durability and practicality in mind. The display is equipped with Gorilla Glass 5, a protective layer that shields the screen from scratches and damage. The rear panel is also coated in Gorilla Glass 5, providing the same level of protection as the display. Moreover, the device is certified to IP67, indicating that it is dustproof and waterproof. It can withstand being submerged in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes without sustaining any damage.
The Galaxy A54 5G also offers compatibility with the latest technologies, such as 5G and Wi-Fi 6. With 5G support, users can experience faster and more reliable internet speeds, while Wi-Fi 6 allows for more efficient use of network bandwidth, resulting in smoother streaming and faster downloads.
n terms of design, the Galaxy A54 5G features a sleek and modern look. The rear camera bump has been replaced by a “floating” camera design, which gives the device a more streamlined appearance. The A54 5G is available in four vibrant colours: Awesome Graphite, Awesome White, Awesome Lime and Awesome Violet. Meanwhile, the A34 5G, which was announced alongside the A54 5G, has a matte rear panel that some users may find more attractive, despite being the more affordable option.
Lastly, unlike the Samsung S23 series, the Galaxy A54 5G includes a microSD card slot, allowing users to expand the device’s storage capacity. Alternatively, a second nano-SIM card can be added to the same slot for those who require dual-SIM functionality. Overall, the Galaxy A54 5G is a well-designed and durable smartphone that offers a range of impressive features at an affordable price point.
DISPLAY
The A54’s 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display has slightly shrunk, but it still boasts a sharp 2,400 x 1,080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, resulting in a smooth user experience. A front-facing fingerprint sensor is located beneath the screen, and the 32MP selfie camera is situated in a small hole-punch notch, which appears neater than the teardrop cutout on the A34 5G.
What impressed me is definitely the screen. In the “Natural” mode, the display covers 96.2% of the sRGB gamut with a total volume of 100% and an average Delta E (colour variance) score of 2.04. There were some inconsistencies with some red and dark green tones, but otherwise, it was faultless. Additionally, the peak luminance is significantly enhanced this year, with a total peak luminance of 947cd/m² in auto-brightness mode compared to 706cd/m² on the A53.
The Camera
Compared to the A53 5G, the sensor on the A54 5G is physically larger, now measuring 1/1.56in, with bigger pixels of 1.0µm compared to 0.8µm. Additionally, the optical image stabilisation (OIS) has been improved.
The overall quality of the camera is impressive for its price point. Although there is no direct comparison to the previous A53 model, the main camera captures an impressive amount of detail and rich colors, particularly in outdoor scenes captured during daylight.
The recently added Auto Night feature of the camera is very useful as it can detect the amount of light and automatically switch to night mode to enhance low-light photos. The output is quite impressive, with improved dark areas and highlights that are softly rendered, albeit with a slight loss in detail.

Battery
The battery life of the Galaxy A54 5G is not very impressive, similar to its performance. Although Samsung advertises it as a phone that can last for 2 or more days on a single charge, this has not been the case in my experience. However, like most mid-range devices from the company, you can still use the A54 5G for a whole day without requiring a charge, even when using battery-intensive tasks such as browsing, taking pictures, and gaming, which is still good.
Overall Review
Overall, the Samsung A54 5G is an imprecise phone and it is one of the phone which is worth the money. For more information about the Samsung A54 5G; time to find out more at https://www.samsung.com/my/smartphones/galaxy-a/galaxy-a53-5g-awesome-blue-256gb-sm-a536elbhxme/
