Philips Domestic Appliances Malaysia has achieved a new milestone in modern home living after successfully ironing 49 school shirts in just 60 minutes, earning recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records.

Held at the Harvey Norman Mid Valley KL Flagship Store, the record-breaking challenge demonstrated the speed and performance of the newly upgraded Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator Iron PSG 8000 Series.

More than simply setting a record, the challenge addressed a familiar household routine faced by many Malaysian parents: preparing multiple school uniforms for the week ahead.

By powering through almost one school shirt per minute, the Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator showed how the right home appliance can make ironing faster, easier and less stressful.

Designed to Cut Down Everyday Ironing Time

For busy families, ironing school uniforms can take up a considerable amount of time, especially when several shirts, pinafores, baju kurung, hijabs, trousers, blazers and ties need to be prepared.

Philips developed the upgraded PerfectCare Steam Generator to help reduce this workload. According to the brand, the appliance can reduce average ironing time by up to half, allowing users to complete their laundry routine more efficiently.

Philips Domestic Appliances Malaysia Commercial Director Patt Sue-Ann explained that meaningful innovation begins with solving real challenges experienced by consumers.

“At Philips, meaningful innovations always circle back to solving real day-to-day challenges,” she said.

“In Malaysia, ironing school uniforms can be time-consuming for many families. With the newly upgraded Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator, we create solutions that help people live better, save time and enjoy more meaningful moments with their loved ones.”

The record attempt focused on short-sleeved school shirts commonly worn by Malaysian students. However, the product is designed to handle a much wider range of garments and fabrics found in everyday households.

Powerful Steam for Faster Crease Removal

At the heart of the Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator PSG 8000 Series is its powerful steam performance.

The steam generator delivers a continuous steam rate of up to 215g per minute, helping users smooth out stubborn creases more quickly. Selected models also provide a steam boost ranging from approximately 750g to 850g for garments that require additional power.

This high steam output allows users to work through clothes with fewer repeated movements. Instead of repeatedly ironing over the same area, the powerful steam helps relax fabric fibres and smooth creases with a more efficient glide.

This can be especially useful for school uniforms, workwear, cotton shirts, trousers and other garments that are frequently washed and ironed.

Zero Burns Guaranteed with OptimalTEMP Technology

One of the standout benefits of the Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator is its OptimalTEMP Technology.

The technology allows users to iron different ironable fabrics without manually adjusting the temperature between garments. It is designed to safely handle materials ranging from denim and cotton to more delicate fabrics.

Philips supports this feature with a Zero Burns Guaranteed promise when the product is used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

For households that regularly iron a mixture of school uniforms, office wear and delicate clothing, this helps remove the uncertainty of selecting the correct temperature.

Users can move from one ironable garment to another without repeatedly stopping to adjust the heat setting, helping make the overall routine more seamless.

Steam That Responds to Movement

The Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator is also designed to dispense steam immediately when movement is detected.

This means users do not need to repeatedly press a steam trigger or wait for steam to be released while ironing. The iron responds as it moves across the garment, helping to maintain a more natural and continuous ironing rhythm.

The immediate steam response contributes to faster crease removal while reducing unnecessary pauses during the process.

For parents trying to prepare several uniforms at once, this movement-responsive feature can help make a repetitive task feel significantly more manageable.

Lightweight and Flexible to Use

Despite its powerful steam performance, the handheld iron is designed to be lightweight and easy to manoeuvre.

It can be used horizontally on an ironing board or vertically to refresh hanging garments, curtains and selected fabrics.

Vertical steaming can be particularly helpful when users need to quickly refresh an outfit, remove light creases from a blazer or prepare garments that are difficult to position on a conventional ironing board.

The lighter design also helps reduce strain during longer ironing sessions, particularly when handling a large family laundry load.

Large Detachable Water Tank

The PSG 8000 Series includes a detachable water tank with a capacity of approximately 1.4 litres.

Its larger capacity allows users to iron more garments before needing to stop and refill the appliance. The detachable design also makes the tank more convenient to carry to the tap and refill.

This is particularly valuable during longer ironing sessions, when repeated interruptions can add more time to an already demanding household task.

By combining powerful steam with a generous water capacity, the steam generator is designed to support continuous and efficient ironing.

Automatic Safety Shut-Off

Safety is another important consideration when selecting an iron for the home.

The Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator automatically switches off when it has been left idle for four minutes. This feature provides additional reassurance for users who may become distracted while managing children, answering calls or completing other household tasks.

Although users should still unplug and store the appliance safely after use, the automatic shut-off function offers an additional layer of protection and energy efficiency.

Putting the Steam Generator to the Test

The Malaysia Book of Records attempt was completed by Philips-appointed “Ironman” Nik Erwan Nik Roseli, a creative consultant and stylist with close to 20 years of experience in fashion design and styling.

Nik Erwan has worked with leading fashion names, including Uniqlo and Rizman Ruzaini, and has styled Malaysian personalities such as Meerqeen, Hael Husaini and Shiha Zikir.

“With close to 20 years of experience in fashion designing and styling, I have worked with all types of fabrics,” he said.

“Using the right iron can protect your clothes and save ironing time, especially when it comes to details like collars, buttons and pleats. With this Philips PSG, I was able to finish one shirt in less than one minute.”

The record challenge required speed, consistency and careful attention to the condition of every shirt. Completing 49 shirts within the one-hour period demonstrated how efficiently the steam generator could perform under pressure.

A Solution for Malaysian School-Uniform Routines

Malaysia’s school uniforms come in many forms, ranging from short-sleeved shirts and trousers to pinafores, baju kurung, hijabs, prefect blazers and ties.

Patt Sue-Ann shared that the Philips team even practised ironing different school garments internally while preparing for the record attempt.

“Imagine the variety of school uniforms that we have here in Malaysia, from primary to secondary school uniforms,” she said.

“Then, you have the variations between boys and girls, and pinafores and baju kurung with hijabs. Let’s not forget school prefects with their blazers and ties. So, let us do the heavy lifting for you.”

With millions of school-going children across Malaysia, uniform preparation remains a regular responsibility for many parents and caregivers. By helping families complete this routine more quickly, the steam generator aims to give them more time for rest, family activities and other priorities.

Officially Recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records

The challenge was assessed by Malaysia Book of Records spokesperson Megat Faris Megat Muzzafar Shah, who was responsible for judging the attempt before officially declaring the achievement.

“We pride ourselves on being part of this achievement with Philips Domestic Appliances Malaysia,” he said.

“This is in line with our 30 years of history in documenting and celebrating achievements in the country. Having been awarded a title in the Malaysia Book of Records also strengthens trustworthiness among Malaysian consumers.”

The achievement represents a new product-performance benchmark while reinforcing Philips’ focus on developing household appliances that address practical consumer needs.

Innovation Available at Harvey Norman

Harvey Norman Malaysia hosted the record-breaking event at its Mid Valley KL Flagship Store.

Yvonne Chin, Assistant General Manager of the Small Appliances and Personal Care Department at Harvey Norman Malaysia, said the retailer is committed to providing customers with access to leading international brands and knowledgeable product specialists.

“This record reflects our shared passion with Philips for innovation that makes a meaningful difference in everyday life,” she said.

The event was attended by members of the media, influencers and industry associates, together with personalities including Norreen Iman, Catriona Ross and Kenzo Katarmo.

Making More Time for What Matters

Ironing may be an unavoidable part of many household routines, but the process does not have to take up an entire evening or weekend.

With powerful continuous steam, a high steam boost, OptimalTEMP Technology, movement-responsive steam, a lightweight design and a large detachable water tank, the Philips PerfectCare Steam Generator PSG 8000 Series is built to make garment care faster and more convenient.

Its ability to iron 49 school shirts in 60 minutes demonstrates what is possible when powerful performance is paired with practical, user-friendly technology.

For busy Malaysian families, the greatest benefit may not simply be smoother shirts. It is the opportunity to spend less time managing household chores and more time enjoying meaningful moments with the people who matter most.
