London-based technology company Nothing today announced plans to carry out the second version of its Community Edition Project, building on the success of last year’s campaign.

Nothing is releasing four new briefs for its 2025 challenge at once, allowing entrants more time to develop their ideas and creating more space for collaboration between the winners. This year, winners will also receive a £1,000 cash prize, providing an added incentive for talented individuals and teams to showcase their skills.

The Community Edition Project, which first started in March 2024, was the brand’s first co-creation initiative with the Nothing Community resulting in the production of 1,000 units of the limited edition glow-in-the-dark interpretation of the popular Phone (2a) Plus. The 1,000 limited units sold out online in 15 mins, and was recently awarded a Gold iF Design Award.

From March 26 until April 23, Nothing is inviting participants to submit ideas to design the ultimate version of Phone (3a). Spanning across hardware, wallpapers, accessories and marketing, winners of each brief will have the chance to collaborate directly with the Nothing team to help bring their creations to life.

The four stages for the Community Edition Project 2025 include:

Hardware Design

Developing a fresh look and feel of Phone (3a)

Accessory Design

The creation of an exclusive collectable or accessory to ship with Phone (3a) Community Edition

Software Design

UI elements that make the on-screen experience as unique as the hardware design, such as a wallpaper series, widget, clock icon pack etc.

Marketing Campaign

A creative proposal that informs creative deliverables such as key visuals, a launch moment or an event.
