OPPO is proud to unveil its latest short cultural film, as part of its #OPPOMalaysiaThroughTheLens campaign, which celebrates Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage.

Filmed and captured entirely using OPPO’s newly unveiled foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N5, this inspiring short film follows the story of Anuharan, a Malaysian professional living and working abroad, who returns home annually to take part in the festivities of Thaipusam as a testament to the devotion that he holds to his faith. 

The film captures Anuharan’s spirituality and how it continues to guide him in his personal and professional life. His faith in Hinduism is long held, but a personal loss in the early years of his marriage had redefined and strengthened the devotion he has to his faith, and consequently, his outlook on life. For him, Thaipusam is a moment of renewal, a reminder of the burdens he has lifted, and opportunity to give back to his community.

Thaipusam is celebrated by millions across the world as a symbol of perseverance and devotion, marking the triumphs of Lord Murugan over evil. Every year in Malaysia, hundreds of thousands of devotees gather at temples, most notably at the foot of Batu Caves’ steeped and colorful steps, carrying the Kavadi on their shoulders in honour of Lord Murugan, and to participate in the festivities.

The act of carrying the Kavadi is highly spiritual; mirroring the struggles that one faces, and the strengths and sacrifices required overcome their personal burdens. For many like Anuharan, the act is physically, mentally, and spiritually demanding, and it inspires many carriers to continue to strive for growth in their own personal and spiritual journeys. With Anuharan’s storied narration, the film offers audiences a glimpse into the depths of his devotion.
