Casio Computer Co., Ltd. has raised the bar once again with the introduction of the MRG-B2000JS, the newest addition to the MR-G series of G-SHOCK watches. This exclusive timepiece, limited to just 800 pieces worldwide, is a testament to Japanese craftsmanship, blending the strength and elegance of the traditional katana sword with cutting-edge watchmaking technology.

The Legacy of the MR-G Line

The MR-G collection represents the pinnacle of G-SHOCK’s toughness and precision. Designed for those who demand durability and elegance, each watch in this flagship line is a masterpiece, merging modern innovation with traditional artistry.

The MRG-B2000JS draws inspiration from the Juryoku-Maru: San, a one-of-a-kind katana sword commissioned by Casio. Forged by master swordsmith Kamiyama Teruhira and adorned by lacquer artisan Nomura Mamoru, the sword epitomizes the fusion of strength and beauty that the MR-G line seeks to emulate.

Design Details Rooted in Tradition

The MRG-B2000JS is more than just a watch—it’s an homage to the craft of Japanese sword-making:

Recrystallized Hybrid Titanium Bezel

The bezel, a centerpiece of this timepiece, is crafted from a layered combination of Ti64 and pure titanium. Subjected to high-temperature, high-pressure compression, the material undergoes a recrystallization process that mirrors the intricate temper patterns found on the blade of the Juryoku-Maru: San.

Aogai-Textured Band

The band reflects the rich texture of aogai blue shell lacquer, inspired by the scabbard of the Juryoku-Maru: San. This detail showcases micro-level processing of DAT55G, a metal alloy three times harder than pure titanium. The result is a mesmerizing interplay of colors that shift depending on the angle of view.

Hand-Engraved Kanji Inscription

Using techniques akin to those used in swordsmithing, Kamiyama Teruhira has hand-engraved the kanji character 燦 (“San”) onto the case back of each timepiece. This ensures that every watch is a unique creation, imbued with personal craftsmanship.

Katana-Inspired Aesthetic

Details such as the hishimaki-gara diamond pattern on the watch face and indexes reminiscent of a sword’s curvature bring the essence of the katana to life.

Master Craftsmen Behind the MRG-B2000JS

Kamiyama Teruhira: As a master swordsmith leading the modern katana world, Kamiyama’s work embodies the strength and beauty of traditional Japanese swords. His artistry perfectly aligns with the vision of the MR-G series.

Nomura Mamoru: A third-generation artisan specializing in urushi lacquer, Nomura’s expertise in techniques like raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) adds a layer of elegance and sophistication to the MRG-B2000JS.

A Limited-Edition Masterpiece

With only 800 pieces available globally, the MRG-B2000JS is a rare opportunity to own a piece of functional art. Combining traditional Japanese aesthetics with G-SHOCK’s renowned durability and precision, this timepiece stands as a tribute to the harmony between past and present.

The MRG-B2000JS isn’t just a watch—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, culture, and innovation, making it an essential collector’s item for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
