Aiming to become the world’s largest and most inclusive financial public utility and identity system, World proudly announces the activation of World ID Credential in Malaysia today. Initially piloting for iOS users, with plans to support Android in the future, this newly launched feature; which also launches in Chile, Colombia, and South Korea; allows Malaysians to securely link valid documents of identification—starting with passports—to their World ID, enabling the user to anonymously prove they are humans instead of bots, and without having to visit an Orb. Verified World ID holders can gain seamless access to the World Network and opt in receive WLD airdrops, while their personal information remains securely stored only on their devices and is safeguarded from access by third-parties, including access by the World Foundation and Tools For Humanity (TFH).
Introduced in October at the “A New World” event in San Francisco, the recently unveiled World ID Credential aims to benefit an estimated 1.2 billion passport holders globally through its remote enrollment, which would enable World ID holders with limited access to a physical Orb to participate in the World Network. To ensure user authenticity, World ID Credential utilizes Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology, enabling World ID holders to remain anonymous while retaining full ownership of their data and maintaining complete control over what they choose to disclose. All data is securely stored exclusively on the World ID holder’s device. This approach with ZKP technology not only protects individual privacy but also reduces the risk of personal information leaks during online transactions or interactions.
In a time when digital spaces are rapidly expanding, deepfakes, bots, and identity thefts are rising. Malaysians today are more vulnerable to impersonation and data breaches than before, and a total of 454 cases have been reported since the beginning of the year, with RM2.2 million in losses estimated from fraud cases that may have leveraged deepfake technology1.
World ID’s arrival is timely, offering Malaysians a secure, private and verified digital identity to navigate digital services and digital spaces. Malaysians can now authenticate their humanness and uniqueness using World ID, either through proof of documents with World ID Credential or Orb verification, all while maintaining online anonymity from everyone including World Network. This allows Malaysians to prove their humanness and uniqueness, such as age and nationality, so that digital transactions can happen friction-free while individuals safely interact in a privacy-preserving manner that can offer peace of mind. Currently, for every verification of a World ID Credential, each holder is entitled to 26 WLD, in addition to any WLD they may receive after completing Orb verification, with the total amount of airdrops gradually decreasing over time.
World Foundation is committed to bringing the highest level of security, privacy, and user control to Malaysians, whether you’re interacting with online services, verifying your identity, or ensuring your digital safety. World ID Credential is now available via World App for iOS users. While plans are underway to expand access to Android, World Foundation aims to promote the importance of digital proof of humanness, enhancing online security for users worldwide.
